Directionality for Schools and Teachers
A shared, positive vocabulary for how every student communicates, learns and makes decisions. Directionality is a short temperament assessment that describes each student as a mix of four color-coded communication pathways — Red, Green, Yellow and Blue. It takes about 10 minutes, and classes can use online codes with a teacher view or printed sets of 50.
Why schools use Directionality
Teachers and staff use it as a classroom guidance activity and as a starting point for better conversations. It fits alongside social-emotional learning without replacing anything you already teach.
Better classroom communication
Students learn that classmates hear and say things differently, and get simple words for asking for what they need.
Calmer conversations about conflict
A shared vocabulary helps students and adults talk about friction without blame, which can take the heat out of power struggles.
How each student prefers to learn
Helps teachers understand how each student prefers to learn, so lessons and feedback can reach more of the class.
A positive school climate
Every pathway has strengths. Students see differences as something to appreciate, not something to fix.
Staff team building
Teachers, counselors and administrators can take it too, and use their results to plan and work together as a team.
Parent conferences
Results give parents and teachers a common starting point for talking about a child’s strengths and needs.
The four communication pathways
Everyone uses all four. A student’s results show their primary and secondary pathways — the two they lean on most.
Red pathway
Flexible and adventurous. Open to changes in direction and quick to try something new.
Green pathway
Logical and future-focused. Thinks things through and likes to understand why.
Yellow pathway
Ordered and dependable. Likes schedules, clear steps and knowing what comes next.
Blue pathway
Harmonious and caring. Expressive, empathetic and focused on helping others.
Choose the right level
Students choose their school level when they create an account. Every level is available online or as a printed set of 50.
Elementary School
Ages 9–11. Ten questions online, or the Elementary School Assessment Set of 50 on paper.
Middle School
Ages 12–14. Twenty questions online, or the Middle School Assessment Set of 50 on paper.
High School / Adult
High school students and adults, including staff. Twenty questions online, or the Teen/Adult Assessment Set of 50.
How it works for a class
Step 1: Ask for codes or printed sets
Tell us how many students, which levels, and whether you want online codes or printed sets.
Step 2: Get your codes and invoice
Each code comes on a handout sheet with simple steps and a QR code. We email an invoice for your school to pay.
Step 3: Students take the assessment
Students log in or create an account, choose their level and enter their code. It takes about 10 minutes.
Step 4: Review results by class
The teacher view shows the results of students who used your codes, grouped by class, with a spreadsheet download.
Student privacy
Each student uses their own account and enters the code from their teacher. The teacher sees only the results of assessments taken with that teacher’s codes — never the student’s email address or any other results. Students keep their own results and Pathway Guides in their account.

Frequently asked questions from schools
What is Directionality?
A temperament inventory that describes a person’s traits as a mix of four communication pathways. What is Directionality? explains the background, and you can take the assessment yourself to see it first-hand.
How long does it take?
About 10 minutes online. The elementary version has 10 questions; the middle school and high school/adult versions have 20.
Can teachers see students’ results?
Yes. When a student enters a code from their teacher, that teacher sees the results of that assessment, grouped by class. The teacher never sees the student’s email address or any other results.
Which ages is it for?
Elementary school students (ages 9–11), middle school students (ages 12–14), and high school students and adults.
How do schools pay, and do you ship?
We email an invoice that your school can pay by card, bank transfer, check or purchase order. Printed sets ship within the United States. See pricing.
Is it a test with right or wrong answers?
No. It describes how a student prefers to communicate, learn and decide, and every pathway has its own strengths. Read the color definitions.
