About the assessment

What is Directionality?

A temperament inventory that identifies your personality traits as a mix of four communication pathways: Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.

Who created Directionality?

Dr. Michael Reece Carpenter, a counselor and educator with more than four decades of experience in schools and student assistance programs.

Who is it for?

Elementary school students (ages 9–11), middle school students (ages 12–14), high school students and adults — and the parents, teachers and teams who work with them.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes online: 10 questions for elementary school, 20 for middle school and for high school/adult.

How much does it cost?

$7 for one online assessment. Printed assessment sets of 50 are $75. Schools and groups can ask for code pricing.

Can I retake it?

Yes — each attempt needs a new purchase or code. Your earlier results stay in your account.

Results

What will my results show?

Your primary and secondary pathways, a chart of your mix of all four colours, what each pathway means, and your Pathway Guides. You can download or print them as a PDF.

What is a primary pathway?

The pathway you lean on most when you communicate, learn and make decisions. Your secondary pathway comes next. Everyone uses all four.

What do the four colours mean?

Red is flexible and adventurous, Yellow is ordered and dependable, Green is logical and future-focused, and Blue is harmonious and caring.

Schools and teachers

How do schools use Directionality?

With online codes (one per student, printed on handout sheets with simple steps) or printed sets of 50, plus interpretation sets, the Activity Guide and the Quick Guide for class activities.

Can a teacher see students’ results?

Yes, automatically. When a student enters a code from their teacher, that teacher sees the results of that assessment — nothing for the student to set up. The teacher never sees the student’s email address or any other results.

How do schools pay?

We can send an invoice by email. Pay online by card or bank transfer, or by check or purchase order.

How do students start?

Each student gets a sheet with their code and a QR code. They log in or create an account, choose their school level, and enter the code. If the code came from their teacher, the results of that assessment go to the teacher.

Orders, shipping and refunds

Do you ship printed materials?

Yes, within the United States. Shipping is shown at checkout.

What is your refund policy?

You have 30 days to contact us for a full refund if you are not satisfied with the delivery of your order. We can’t refund an assessment because of its results.

Payments and security

Is the website secure?

Yes. Every page on directionality.me uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS with SSL/TLS) — look for the padlock in your browser’s address bar. Information you send, such as your log-in, answers and payment, is encrypted on its way to us.

Who processes payments?

Stripe, one of the world’s largest payment processors. Payments are made right here on directionality.me, and Stripe handles the card or bank details.

Do you see or store my card number?

No. You type your card details into Stripe’s secure payment field, and they go straight to Stripe. Directionality never sees or stores your full card number.

Is Stripe safe?

Stripe is certified PCI DSS Level 1 — the highest level of security certification in the payments industry.

Why did my bank ask me to confirm the payment?

Some banks ask you to confirm a payment, for example with a code or in your banking app (called 3-D Secure). It’s an extra check that protects you from card fraud.

How can I pay?

By credit or debit card in the shop and for online assessments. Schools and groups can also pay an invoice by card, bank transfer, check or purchase order.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. We email a receipt as soon as your payment goes through.

How are refunds paid?

Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with, and usually show within 5–10 business days.

How is my password protected?

Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so nobody — including us — can read them. If you forget yours, choose “Forgot your password?” to set a new one.

Accounts and privacy

Do I need an account?

Yes — to take the assessment online and keep your results. It only takes a minute to create one.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Choose “Forgot your password?” on the log-in page and follow the email we send you.

Is my information private?

Your results are kept in your account. A teacher sees only the results of an assessment taken with a code from that teacher. See our Privacy Policy for details.
